The theme of this article - as I understand it - is that the protestors in Hong Kong had better not be hoping for any help from our President Donald Trump or from America - they are totally on their own - so waving American flags and singing our national anthem is not going to help AT ALL.

You will be like the protestors at Tian An Men Square thirty years ago - then-President George H.  W. Bush seemed to pretty much wait that one out, not wanting to ruffle any feathers too much.

(the article didn't mention the First Gulf War, but President Bush also left Iraqis to fend for themselves at the end of "Desert Storm" - they were on their own in dealing with Saddam Hussein, who had survived and stayed in power)

President Bill Clinton took planeloads of CEO's to China to explore the idea of moving their factories to China, under the aegis of our own President, CEO's were being shown how to avoid paying union wages, benefits, ensuring worker health and safety, preventing manufacturing pollution, all that jazz that costs so much - move your factories to China - so President Bill Clinton wasn't too worried about confronting the same people who ran the Tian An Men Square crackdown.

Tehran and the Green Revolution in 2009 - the author mentioned that - yes, President Obama did not come to the rescue of those brave protestors.  He worked out that nuclear deal with the mullahs but did any of that money go to the people?  It seemed to me that all through his Presidency he was on the side of the mullahs and not on the side of the brave people who were met with a bloody, brutal reprisal after the protests in June 2009.

I don't see how this is not labeled an editorial instead of a news report - in fact, it should make the guys in Beijing happy if it could be used to suppress the protests in Hong Kong, "what's the use".

It would be interesting to know if those American flags were made in China

(when we were shopping at Lowe's for a new American flag, there were some that had been made in China)

I remember being annoyed at American flags being made in China but now, if those flags were made in China, that would be a beautiful thing if they had been purchased "locally" . . .

anyway, I hope they keep singing our national anthem but if they want to throw in the Marseillaise, (a la the patrons of Rick's singing "La Marseillaise" in "Casablanca" in response to the Nazis singing “Die Wacht am Rhein") . . . that would be beautiful, too.
