excerpts from the "Los Angeles Times"

As usual, I looked for articles, editorials 30 years ago today with regard to Beijing/the CCP - and I did find this n the "Los Angeles Times" about the CCP's repression in the years after Tiananmen Square . . . but I also found other articles in that day's issue of the "Los Angeles Times" which I found interesting, considering current events:

that strict Fundamentalist Islamic rule had taken hold in Kabul (eg, veils for women); this was considered an alarming development - now all these years later, back to that point!

Signing of pact in former Soviet states re nuclear sites (like Chernobyl)

The 5billion dollar windfall for Iraq - at a a branch in Atlanta of an Italian bank - President George H. W. Bush knew about this five billion dollars for Iraq to help Saddam amass weaponry (before the invasion of Kuwait)
